SHAPE Op Art
Instructor’s
Notes: A shape is created when a line
connects to enclose an area; an area of color or texture is defined by a clear
boundary or when an area is surrounded. Open shapes are generally buoyant;
closed shapes are generally more substantial. Gradation can be used to add the
illusion of space. Creating a dialog between the positive shape (or figure) and
the surrounding area (or ground) is an essential aspect of design.
The Pen tool will help you draw both geometric and organic shapes. Hold down the tool to find the different choices. Rasterize the shape or flatten the layer to edit the shape.
The shape tool will create both geometric and organic shapes.
To add color and texture you will need to rasterize the layer when finished.
You can change the colors with the color swatches box, or recolor with the paint bucket or gradient
Bucket. Use pixels when creating them, or merge the shape down, the select it with the magic wand.
Then change the paint-bucket to the gradient bucket by holding the bucket down until you see the
Gradient. Select the shape with the magic wand and apply the gradient.
If you have PowerPoint you can copy a shape and paste it in your photoshop document.
Photoshop vector shapes can be found on the web and used.
