No No Nano

The Dangers of Nano Technology, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator

Expressive Texting

Painting, Adobe Photoshop

The idea behind this text piece of expressive typography is to play with the elements of size and movement in a text piece.  I originally thought of the idea of painting, so the text needed to take on color as well as size and shape of the font itself.  I chose Rosewood STD because of the decorative element of the font as well as the natural transparent elements as I planned to add color or painted background. Along with changing size and color I added movement through using the warp text distortion feature in finishing.  It also solves the problem of onomatopoeia.

Stacked Creativity, Adobe Photoshop

Here I am playing with the idea of stacked text but used the same word rather than same characters.  I chose the font Jokerman because of its playful nature which seemed to illustrate the idea.  I like the over all shape of this element.  I also chose to play with light and form as well as movement as I played with value and blur of the double shadow in the background as well as changing to a darker color for the stacked as well as shadow font.  For the background I wanted the effect of a sunny sky and used a gradient and blurred it two different directions. I used proportion in deciding how close to crop the image and symmetry as well as variety in all of the final choices to finish this work.
Smile LigatureAdobe Photoshop

The idea behind this ligature text art is to make you think of the word smile in a similar manner as when the word is stretched audibly when someone is taking your picture.  I chose pink as in lips and then decided that the visual addition of teeth would be important to this.  The stretched proportion and tight cropping is supposed to make you think of a mouth.  I also added lighting effects of darkening edges and a camera flash to  create the image idea combination.
Reversed ArtAdobe Photoshop

This figure ground reversal was made by creating a ligature on different layers, then selecting the letter overlapping the text.  on the first layer the color was inverted.   This is simply playing with the element of positive negitive shape.  A feeling of movement was created because of the directional pull and the use of space created by overlapping,  Proportion was important so it is cropped tightly.  I preferred   the harmonic color combination of this yellow and blue over black and white.
